Email Marketing Guide

The Email Marketing app lets you design and run email campaigns (welcome series, nurture, onboarding, re-engagement) with AI-generated copy and timing. You build the campaign in Maniana, then publish it to a supported email provider so they handle sending, triggers, and tracking. This guide covers how to create the app, set and control emails in steps, and integrate and publish with a provider.

How to Create the Email Marketing App

You create an email campaign by choosing the Email vertical and then using the AI-powered create flow to generate a full sequence, or by building it step by step in the builder.

Create a new campaign

  1. Choose Email — From the app list or verticals, select Email Campaign (or Email Marketing) and create a new campaign.
  2. Describe your business and goal — On the create page, describe your product or service, who your target users are, and what action you want them to take (e.g., sign up for a trial, schedule a demo, make a first purchase).
  3. Pick a campaign type — Select a framework such as Welcome Series, Nurture Campaign, Onboarding Sequence, Re-engagement, or Launch. The AI uses this to structure the sequence and tone.
  4. Set options — Choose the number of emails, send frequency (e.g., every 2–3 days), and tone (e.g., friendly, professional). The AI suggests defaults you can change.
  5. Generate with AI — Click generate; the AI creates the full campaign: subject lines, email bodies (HTML), CTAs, and send delays between steps. This usually takes under a minute.
  6. Open the builder — When generation finishes, you're taken to the campaign builder, where you see all emails as steps and can edit, reorder, or add more.

Tip: The more specific your description (product name, audience, and desired action), the better the AI can tailor subject lines, body copy, and CTAs to your business.

How to Set and Control Emails in Steps

In the campaign builder, each email in the sequence is a step. You can edit content, change order, and control when each email is sent relative to the previous one.

Step list and order

  • Email steps — The step list shows every email in the campaign (e.g., Email 1: Welcome, Email 2: Key feature, Email 3: CTA). You can drag and drop to reorder so the sequence matches your strategy.
  • Add or remove steps — Add a new email step with the add control; remove an email you don't need. New steps can be generated with AI or written and pasted in manually.

Editing an email step

  • Subject line — Edit the subject in the step editor. This is what recipients see in their inbox; you can use the AI to suggest alternatives or A/B variants.
  • Body content — Edit the email body (HTML or rich text). You can change copy, add or replace images, and adjust CTAs. The editor or AI can regenerate a single email if you want a different angle.
  • CTA (call-to-action) — Set or change the main button or link text and URL so each email drives the action you want (e.g., "Start free trial", "Book a demo").
  • Send delay — Set how long after the previous email this one is sent (e.g., 1 day, 3 days, 1 week). This controls the pacing of the sequence.

Controlling the sequence

You control the sequence by ordering steps and setting delays. Optional settings may let you mark an email as optional (e.g., skip if the user already converted) or set conditions; the exact options depend on the builder. Use preview to see how the sequence looks and when each email fires.

Note: Maniana designs the campaign and stores the blueprint (subjects, bodies, timing, CTAs). The actual sending and automation runs in your chosen email provider after you publish.

Integrate and Publish with a Supported Email Provider

When the campaign is ready, you connect a supported provider and publish the campaign so they create the automation (or campaign) and send the emails. Supported providers include Mailchimp, SendGrid, and MailWizz.

Supported providers

  • Mailchimp — Full-featured marketing automation: lists, segments, automations, and triggers. Best if you want a single platform for lists and automation.
  • SendGrid — Strong API and deliverability; supports contact lists, segments, and marketing campaigns/automations. Good for technical teams and high volume.
  • MailWizz — Self-hosted option with lists, segments, and autoresponders. Suits teams that need to host email infrastructure themselves.

Connecting a provider

  1. Open integration settings — In the app or account settings, go to the Email or Integrations section and choose the provider you want (Mailchimp, SendGrid, or MailWizz).
  2. Add credentials — Enter the API key or OAuth details required by that provider (e.g., Mailchimp API key, SendGrid API key). The UI will show which credentials are needed and how to get them from the provider's dashboard.
  3. Test connection — Use the "Test connection" or "Verify" option to confirm Maniana can reach the provider. Fix any errors (e.g., wrong key, permissions) before publishing.

Publishing the campaign

  1. Select the campaign — In the campaign builder, make sure all steps (emails) and delays are set as you want.
  2. Choose Publish (or Export) — Click Publish (or Export to provider). Select the connected provider (Mailchimp, SendGrid, or MailWizz) and, if asked, the list or audience where new subscribers will be added.
  3. What the provider creates — The provider receives the campaign blueprint and creates the corresponding resources: a list (if needed), an automation or campaign, and each email with your subject, HTML body, and timing. They then send emails automatically based on triggers (e.g., when someone joins the list, or after a delay).
  4. Ongoing sending and tracking — After publish, the provider handles sending, opens, clicks, and unsubscribes. You can view performance in the provider's dashboard or, when supported, in Maniana's analytics.

Best practice: Sync your product's user actions (signups, logins, purchases) to the provider (e.g., add contacts to the list, update merge fields or tags) so the right people receive the right sequence and the provider can trigger automations correctly.

Summary

Create an email campaign by choosing the Email vertical, describing your business and goal, picking a campaign type (Welcome, Nurture, Onboarding, etc.), and generating the sequence with AI. In the builder, set and control each email step: subject, body, CTA, and send delay; reorder or add steps as needed. Then connect a supported provider (Mailchimp, SendGrid, or MailWizz) with API credentials, and publish the campaign so the provider creates the automation and sends the emails. Maniana designs and stores the campaign; the provider handles sending, triggers, and tracking.
